Winning Attitudes in Sports Betting

Guest post written by Paul Micelli

One of the biggest pitfalls that most bettors face is leaving the ‘game’ too early. Although bottom line profits are the mainstay to any gambling activity, endurance is also a key concept that many tend to overlook. Staying involved in sports betting action is a fundamental part of long-term success and bettors need to develop a habit of maximising patterns and placing those all-important bets at exactly the right juncture of a game or tournament.

Although it can sometimes appear more profitable to place a large part of your bankroll on the outright winner of a sports event, many bettors begin to lose sight of the true spirit of gambling; more enjoyment can be gleaned from anticipating different parts of the betting market, knowing when to strike with crucial bets that maximise earnings and essentially enjoying the full experience of being involved with a sporting event.

There are even times when betting can become incidental to the actual competition itself. After all, there will always those predictable passages of time where Lady Luck turns her back and deserts you. This is when a realistic outlook and a spirited approach to gambling will keep you in the game for much longer than the also-rans.

Finding the Right Options

Gambling dates back many thousands of years and there are a number of historical events that were enjoyed on a social basis by the upper echelons of society. Today, sports betting action can be enjoyed by everybody from seasoned gamblers to university students. The traditional role of the High Street bookmaker has been superseded somewhat by the ‘point spread’ principle that is currently enjoying explosive growth in an online capacity. This has led to a wider choice of sports betting options and many enthusiasts have found that there is much more enjoyment to be had in casting their nets a little wider.

Bankrolls

Although this may seem like an uncomfortable concept, take time to stop and look at those who share your passion for sports betting. How many times do you see frustrated punters throwing their final betting slip of the day onto the floor long before the daily action has finished? How many times have you heard them blaming the betting shop staff, the jockeys or the stewards? It seems as if these people are ready to blame just about anybody. Apart from themselves, of course!

Control is one of the most important factors in successful sports betting activity. Assign yourself a bankroll that is separate to the rest of your daily expenditure and stay within the confines of it at all times by only betting a set percentage on any single event. Establish control over your bankroll and you’re guaranteed to be in the game for much longer than those unfortunate casual punters that you see every time you visit your bookie.

Choosing the Right Event

Too many bettors blow their bankrolls by trying to be involved in as much sports activity as possible. Would you seriously consider passing over £100 to a friend who has no mechanical experience in the hope that he might be able to fix your car? Successful gamblers know their own limitations and only speculate profits in events that they are completely at ease with.

If horses are your passion, be sure to know everything about the runners, jockeys and trainers. If football is your preference, you should always have a firm idea of starting line-ups, injuries and suspensions. It’s the small pieces of information that are usually instrumental to any type of profitable sports betting activity. To approach an event in a casual and under-informed manner is no different to just giving your money away.
