Sometimes you have to break the rules…[DETAILS INSIDE]

Although technology is something that allows me to live the way that I live, it never ceases to amaze me.

I am writing this weeks newsletter from a hospital. Don’t worry, I am fine, but am visiting a family member who has been in and out of hospital for the last month.

It wasn’t that long ago we were told that we couldn’t have a mobile phone turned on in a hospital, and now they are piping wifi throughout the whole building!

That being said, the newsletter is a bit late today because it took me a while to get the connection working.

I had better move on, because there is a lot to talk about this week, including…

> How I break my own rules for festival betting and why it works
> Why you can never make a profit from tipsters
> The Race Advisor reader who has been finding 4/1, 7/1, 8/1, 9/1 and 14/1 winners time and again!

But first, I want to share with you how I approach festival betting and why it works.

After Ascot last week, things have returned to a more normal level. I hope that you were able to join me on my live blog posts. We made a nice profit by the end of the week.

I have a different approach to festival betting than I do to my regular betting, and I do this for a reason. It is a much shorter term approach.

As you are probably well aware, in fact I may write about it too often but I do feel it is very important, I advocate the long-term approach for your betting. In fact, anything less than 100 winning bets I don’t believe is enough to make any decisions on, and ideally, at least two or three times that amount.

However, when it comes to festival betting, my approach changes to the short term. This is the only time when I believe you should be looking at the short-term and the reason is…

…the festival only lasts a few days!

Conditions at a racing festival are far from normal. There are the best runners, racing over the toughest conditions. In fact, the conditions are so different from normal racing that we can’t group them with our normal betting.

We must use a separate bankroll, and focus on them as short-term propositions. Doing this has enabled me to make a profit from them year after year.

Here is how I bankroll for a racing festival.

> Put aside a separate amount of money just for the festival
> Work out how many races you are going to be betting on (I usually bet on every race)
> Divide your bankroll by this amount of races
> This is your stake per race
> Any returns are removed from the bankroll as they are returned, so you are not tempted to bet with it

This goes completely against my normal, long-term method of betting so please only use this for racing festivals.

For the next big festival I am investigating the possibility of having a Race Advisor web radio station so you can join me every day and follow the selections I am making.
I decided that this week it was time to tackle a subject that is often talked about, but never really focused on…

…Why You Can Never Make A Profit From Tipsters

The reason that it is never really focused on, is because writers are scared of YOU.

That’s right, you have the power. I am honored that you feel the Race Advisor is worth your time to read, and do my best to make sure that it is always packed with information and help to make your betting pay.

It is because I respect you, that I felt I must tackle the subject of why most punters do not manage to make a profit from tipsters.

Of course, there are a lot of rogue tipsters out there, but there are also the good guys. I personally know some of the good guys, and they make a good living from their selections, but…

…there are always people who join their services and fail to make a profit from the same selections that they are making their living off!

The main cause of this is the wrong MINDSET.

Overcome this and you could find yourself on the winning track very quickly.

Find out more about how to do this here
This week, a Race Advisor reader has launched his tipster service. He has been reading the Race Advisor almost since the beginning, and I hope that the reason for his success is, at least partly, due to the help we have provided.

He has developed his own strategy and been successfully winning with it for over 15 months. Three months ago he asked me if I would take a look at the results, and I have been watching the selections since then.

And, since then, he has not had a losing month!

Winners include many 4/1, 7/1, 8/1, 9/1 and 14/1 selections.

Each morning he sends out 6 selections and the amount to bet on them, but when you get a winner you take the profit and stop betting for the day.

If you want a simple way to get profitable selections, then you should check this out here.
In other news, the database to proof betting system and tipster selections has now been completed, and we are busy working hard on getting the selection entry system built. Our team will be handling the entry of all selections so there is no way that they will not be 100% accurate and unbiased.

With my own betting, I build portfolios of strategies. We are currently converting this to work with the proofing database so that we can optimise a tipster portfolio based on the Race Advisor’s proofing.

What does this mean for you?

It means that we will be able to tell you not only which tipsters are performing well, and all their stats, but who we are going to be using ourselves, how we will be betting on them and when we add or remove tipsters from the portfolio!

There are also some very exciting things in the works which I shall give you more details on in a couple of weeks.

Until next week, have a great weekend.

All the best,

Michael

  1. Hi Michael,
Great read as always. I totally agree with your festival strategy and use the same type of plan myself. I don’t bet on every single race but put aside a pot specifically for the festival.
    Cheers
