What happened? Commentary ceased before race end, so was the analysis any good or not?
Sorry, playback glitch. Race did show a small profit, which is ok!
Very informative, Michael. Your honesty shines through.
I should think that if this method were to be paper traded for a while, you would soon pick up a “feel” for what works.
Well done, this has given some very useful food for thought.
Regards,
John.
thanks i really enjoyed the analysis and the result was very acceptable regards mike
Thank you for the feedback Mike.
you can not put a £1.00 bet on the example above as it is Bet fair.
which has a policy of minimum bet is £2.00. Therefore I am wondering how accurate that example really is. Place market is £2.00 also, so if you did both horse’s it would have been £8.00 Minimum given that Betfair place odds are very poor compared to the win. No one would do each way unless it was very big odd in the place market. Perhaps a new video of doing the same at £2.00 and a script to keep it flowing. So video first then a voice over of what you were doing as you did it. Rather than as you were thinking what to do . sorry but not a good example in those respects and I can not really put a lot of confidence in it.
It is actually possible to put a bet lower than £2 on Betfair even though there minimum is £2. Would you like me to write an article explaining how?
This was one of the first ever videos that I produced and I agree the presentation is not as good as it could be, I am much more experienced in creating them now and I hope they are clearer so I will look at remaking this to make it clearer.
You shouldn’t think of the place market odds as being low on Betfair, in fact they can quite often offer exceptional value at the very low odds ranges of <=1.10. Of course not many people like betting at these odds which is why there is value but because they are low does not meant they cannot be profitable. You can use each-way bets as a bank saver to lower the risk of a bet on a horse that you feel may have some strong competition.
I shall let you know when I have done a new version of this video.
Very interesting and informative video. Well done!
Hi Michael, I’d like to add my voice or vote to your doing a mark II version of your three minute video, but a more pedantic one, mind. I also observed with interest your method of eliminating runners from some of the big races earlier this year, which had pretty spot-on predictions. The thing I’d really like to be able to do with my betting, is to gain an overview of the basic ‘shape’ of a race. I’d expect to suss which races were basically intelligible (or not likely to have ‘shock’ results), and then do further analysis (e.g., trainer, course, class, race-type, going…) before getting into the swamp any heavier analysis (time consuming)! If you do go ahead with another bash at ‘3 minutes’, I’d be quite chuffed,
Charles
Hi Charles, thank you for your comment. I shall look at making a more detailed video in the near future.
The video starts and then your box comes up which I click off then nothing cannot see th video as it will not run. I have registered in the past so do not need to again.
I cannot replicate the problem, you do need to click the play button again afterwards. if you are using Internet Explorer, then please try Google Chrome or Firefox.
Hi Michael ,
Picture quality dropped to illegible for a while when you were scrolling but caught up eventually. I can’t tell whether that is the video or my playback on an oldish slow computer though.
Pre-race analysis fine but arithmetical error in ROI. Surely staking £2 on a race and returning £2.40 is a 20% ROI not 40% as suggested in the video. Calculating ROI this way would give a completely false figure in a short space of time.
Thanks David. Picture quality may be a bit of your old computer and a bit of the fact that the video was amongst the first I made and so my encoding was not as good. £2.40 is certainly a 20% ROI, my apologies if I made the mistake in the video.
Sorry, Michael, but not your finest hour. 20% ROI doesn’t ring my bell. Only OK as a 3 minute bit of fun.
Thanks for your comment Joseph, what kind of ROI do you like to get?
I think the video is great. It is “off the cuff” and it seems to mimic my own thought processes about picking a horse using the form. I would rather view an unrehearsed video than one that was “perfect”. It shows it was real.
The fun really begins when you put real money on it and video it, warts and all!

Mr R Duncan… if you use a betting bot you can bet below £2…. down to pence on Betfair
if you want to.
There are a number of bot’s that will do this, just go look.
A good presentation and a good insight into a useful method Michael, thanks.
