This week sees the return of Godolphin’s Derby hero, Masar, in the Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday where Roaring Lion reopposes in a bid to reverse the Epsom form. The supporting card at Sandown is a good one and there is also the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock on the same day which also features the Old Newton Cup.
Trainers
- Aidan O’Brien – Said his horses weren’t quite 100% ready at Royal Ascot and they’d benefit from some more time, which rang true last week. 12 winners in the past 7 days and his horses are clearly thriving.
- Roger Charlton – Has taken a while for him to hit top stride this season, but had 5 winners last week and things have started to click.
- Owen Burrows – Didn’t have many runners last week but half of them won (4 out of 8) and a further couple placed, has a number of entries for later in the week.
Jockeys
- Jim Crowley – Rode at an extremely impressive 40% win strike rate last week with 11 rides and a further 6 places, has a full book of rides at Bath on Wednesday.
- Oisin Murphy – Had 7 winners in the UK last week and added another over in Italy on Sunday, talented rider who’s back with strong rides at Wolverhampton and Windsor on Monday.
- David Probert – Had 5 winners last week and confidence is high, has a particularly good strike rate for Luca Cumani and Ed De Giles, has a ride for the former at Wolverhampton on Monday.
Horses
- Double Up – A talented sprinter who’s yet to get his head in front this season, but is down to a last turf winning mark and won off 2lbs higher on the all-weather in the winter, runs in the 7.30pm at Windsor on Monday.
- Orion’s Bow – Is now lurking on a very dangerous mark (10lbs below his last winning rating) and would be dropping down to a Class 3 for the first time since 2016 if taking his chance in the 3.50pm at Thirsk on Wednesday.
- Petitioner – Lightly raced for the in-form Roger Charlton, bumped into a pair of progressive sorts last time and there’s more to come from him, entered in the 7.50pm at Kempton on Wednesday and is a course winner. Interesting stepped dramatically up in trip.
- Mustashry – Group 3 winner last year and likes quick ground, still has potential and is interesting stepping up further in trip, holds an entry in the Gala Stakes at Sandown on Friday evening.
- Pouvoir Magique – Lightly raced and progressive beat the Victoria Cup winner at Newbury in May but ran no race at Newcastle next time. Can be forgiven that and is entered in the 7.55pm at Haydock on Friday.
