Weekly Eye-catchers – Horse Racing

horse racing

Well it’s here, the best 5 days of flat racing in the world starts today at Royal Ascot. This week’s column is shorter than normal and you can guess why, as like probably most of you I have had just one thing on my mind in the past week and that’s the biggest flat turf festival of them all!

More Eye-catcher Winners Last Week

Another profitable week for the eye-catchers last week with five winners:

  • Mr Lupton 10/1, in the big sprint at York on Saturday,
  • Aghanny 6/1,
  • Autocratic 3/1,
  • Mutamakiin 11/4
  • Don’t Touch 7/2

Those prices were to industry SP with bigger prices available in the morning for each of the winners. We were unlucky not to have a 6th winner as Olivia Fallow was a close up 2nd at Musselburgh on Saturday.

Royal Ascot: Let The Games Begin!

Before I look at this weeks eye-catchers, I thought I would share with you an interesting trainer stat micro angle for Royal Ascot.

A lot of people ask me how I approach a meeting like Royal Ascot. Well in the interests of brevity I will keep this short.

Besides any eye-catchers that could be running at the meeting, I will look at the big race trends to see what sort of profile a horse needs to be a win contender in their respective races. I find doing this can easily create a shortlist of horses of which I can look to bet on for each race. Looking at big race trends can be an excellent money making tool at Royal Ascot and any other summer racing festival for that matter. I also have a number of trainer stat micro systems and I will be backing those qualifiers too. These micro angles will hopefully prove profitable again this year and I will be sharing those with Eye-catcher Pro subscribers each of the five days of the meeting.

However, I am happy to share one of them with you now and it’s for trainer John Gosden and it’s an easy one to operate.

Make a Profit From John Gosden at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot Trainer System:

John Gosden

Since 2011 – 14 wins from 42 runners for a 33% strike rate with 23 places for a 55% strike rate.

More importantly a + 76.22 point profit to BSP.

This Weeks Eyecatchers

There are three notebook horses for you this week and I will also be adding another couple to the software for Eyecatcher Pro subscribers, including a Robert Cowell trained sprinter who looks well handicapped and could land a decent handicap at big odds.

Thursday June 8th

Haydock

Fair Eva – Roger Charlton – From the first crop of the great Frankel and what an impressive winning debut the filly made. The market fully expected here to making winning debut as she was well backed prior to the race and was sent off the even money favourite. Was very green in the early stages but she got the hang of racing and cruised into the lead when asked by jockey Ryan Moore two furlongs out. She only had to be pushed out inside the final furlong, to win by an easy 4 lengths at the post. This was an impressive start by the filly that clearly went well on the quick going. Connections are going to give her time and she will be interesting contender for two year old Group races as the season progresses.

Friday June 10th

Sandown

Both Sides – Andrew Balding – Wasn’t disgraced, when finishing 5th to Imperial Aviator in the London Gold Cup and his performance could have been marked up as he was set plenty to do at the back of the field before making decent headway to finish best of the hold up horses in that race. Once again here he did best of those held up and again was doing his best work at the finish. Continues to progress with racing and although the gelding only has a Chelmsford maiden win to his name, he has only had six career starts so is open to further progress when he gets more of a stamina test. Could now be worth ago over 1m 4f but may always need a strong gallop to be seen at his very best.

Saturday June 11th

York

Aclaim – Martyn Meade – A winner of his maiden on his only start as two year old at Kempton. He had come from last to first, quickening up well to take what looked a competitive handicap on soft ground at Newmarket in April. The colt was then went over to Ireland to run in Group 3 sprint at Naas and ran well again to take 3rd on good ground The 3 year old was quietly fancied for this valuable 6f handicap, sent off only 6/1 at the off. Held up at the back, was making his effort a furlong out when squeezed for bit of room but kept on nicely to finish a 6 ¾ length 6th at the line. This was only his 4th career start so he is open to a bit more progress. Although the going was good to soft he may need the ground even deeper than this. One to watch out for when he gets softer ground again as he was so impressive when winning at Newmarket.

That’s it for now. Next week I will take a look back at Royal Ascot and now all that’s left is to wish you a profitable weeks betting.

John Burke

I have a MA in International Politics and having spent a number of years working in political campaigning but I eventually I realised that politics was not the world where I wanted to work I had been interested in horse racing since the late 1980s but in the early years I was merely just betting and watching racing like most people as a bit of fun and a hobby, then the hobby becomes a passion and that’s what happened to me with horse racing. I soon realised that to make money from my hobby I had to learn as much as I could about the sport and betting in general. The whole process took time but after a number of successful years of betting, I decided in 2011 to take the plunge, gave up my full time day job and decided to bet on horse racing as a part time business and I haven’t looked back since. I like to specialise in the better class of races and I love to solve the puzzles posed by big field handicaps the latter races often provide punters with great value betting opportunities. Whilst most of my time is spent reviewing previous races I like to keep things as simple as possible as even the biggest field handicaps can usually be pruned down to half a dozen strong contenders with the right sort of approach.

  1. I use PayPal ,and a lot of your services I would like to try only except visa etc

    1. Thanks for your message Steve. We don’t currently accept Paypal but all our payments are processed by BarclayCard and we follow all the BarclayCard security protocols to use them. You also have complete control your membership from inside your own members areas, or you can contact our support desk. If you have any other questions you can get in touch with our support desk at https://anonymousginger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

      1. Hi Michael

I would have tried some of your services if you had PayPal but on the three occassions I raised questions with the support desk to ask for clarification regarding your marketing emails I got an automated reply saying the query had been received but no actual repliy to the message. Those queries were not that important but if I had been trying to cancel a service the failure to respond would have been worrying.

The advantage of PayPal is that you know you will not be locked into a service you no longer want .Can you actually cancel services in the members area or do you still have to make contact via the support desk ?

        1. Hi Red, thank you for the comment. I’ve checked our support desk and can’t see any emails from you from this email address, so you may have used another. We store all emails and respond within 48 hours, often within just a few hours. If you haven’t heard from us for longer than 48 hours though, our reply may have gone into your junk folder by mistake or we may not have received the email so please send us another one.

I totally understand that reasoning for Paypal. All our members have their own account area within their members area, in it you have complete control over your memberships and can cancel them at any time. We want you to be in control of your membership, if a service isn’t for you then we don’t want you to be using it, so we made it as simple as possible to cancel. You can, of course, still contact our support desk to cancel but there is absolutely no need to as you have complete control.

          1. Thanks for the reply Michael.I do have 2 email addresses one for public or semi public items and one for private stuff.

Your reply means that I can join whatever I want and know that I can cancel if and when I want.

  2. Hi Michael, Just a quick note to say that I have only been a member of Eye-catcher Pro for eight days now, and I’m very cynical about these services, however, I have been betting to win on all the selections each day using my own staking plan and I’ve got to say I’m mighty, mighty, mighty impressed!! The only exception was Mr Lupton at York on Saturday which I put on to place and was quite happy with odds of 3.75 until I watched it romp home. I’ve only just stopped crying. Keep up the great work.

    All the best
    John

  3. Just a quick update: There could be a John Gosden qualifier or two running on Day 3 of the meeting!

    1. Should have added horses & times, etc.

      3:05 – Royal Artillery – not a price qualifier yet! <12/1

      3:45 – The Black Princess – not a price qualifier yet – <12/1 – and Sovereign Parade 8/1 is
