Time for a Sound Investment
Yes, having endured no luck the past two Saturday’s with a faller and the other pulled up – we want to hit the target at least this weekend. There is no better trainer to turn to in search of a Saturday winner than Paul Nicholls! Paul has produced the winner of today’s Greatwood Gold Cup six times over the past ten years and I fully expect Sound Investment to add to that score.
Sound Investment jumped like a buck last time out at Ascot behind The Young Master who is a top class performer. In that race Sound Investment raced quite keenly “early doors” before settling into a very good rhythm jumping really well. It was the three mile trip which did him in the end as his stamina reserves ran out a couple of furlongs from home. The intermediate trip of 2m4f will suit him fine especially with front runners Seventh Sky, Wayward Point & Ballygarvey due to run.
Sound Investment should enjoy a “nice toe” into the race and showed at Ascot that he can jump and hold his position over fences when the field is tightly bunched together. There are some jumping concerns regarding Easter Meteor who looks well handicapped on his best form. However, that is going back to November 2013 when he fell over the second last in the Paddy Power chase. It’s a leap of faith to back him these days despite his liking for this course.
Barry Geraghty is an eye catching booking on Seventh Sky with recent pilot Gavin Sheehan jocked off despite riding at Newbury today! He looks primed for a big run and was surprisingly dropped 3lbs to 142 by the handicapper following his second place at Plumpton. Royal Regatta is another danger in a compact handicap but might just lack the experience to win a big pot like this on just his fourth chasing start.
Sound Investment is back over his best trip and with conditions to suit mush have a great chance of landing this prize. Paul Nicholls and Sam Twiston-Davies have a strike rate of 26% (1 in 4) over fences this season. Despite carrying top-weight look to Sound Investment to show his class at Newbury today.
Unfortunately, all the 11/2 that was available last night has been taken as Pricewise and many other tipsters have tipped up Sound Investment. If you can get 4/1 he is a great each way bet if not then back him win only.

Sound Investment is on top of my list for that race as well. Followed by Royal Regatta and Bennys Mist. Rest seem to be further away from podium.
I fully agree Panu but he still has to go and win the race off topweight! Seems every man and his dog has backed him to win the race!
And win he did 🙂
