Saturday Preview

After last week’s debacle on the tipping front which I can only apologise for I can only hope that today we see a turn in fortunes and that the coffers are replenished somewhat.

That said although there are 2 televised races that really interest me the Gigaset International at Ascot and the Sky Bet Dash at York these are real tough nuts to crack and I must admit I am torn between the well handicapped runners in these races and those horses in form who have done me a turn recently.
I have run the system this morning and in both of the above races it has predicted that the best bets are 20/1 plus chances which in essence is great but I always have this nagging doubt that they are the price they are for a reason and therefore wonder whether there is something that the system may not have been programmed for and that may have been missed?

I do however have to back these selections otherwise I would be kicking myself if they obliged and the first of these runs in the 3.15 at Ascot where Johnny sorry I mean Rene Mathis has been system selected with a guide price of 14/1! 20/1 is generally available at the moment so could be a bit of value, add to this that a good friend of mine Roscoe who knows his horses and who has been in cracking form recently has put up the said animal on his Saturday blog gives me a little more confidence!

However as indicated earlier this race is a real toughie with the likes of Heaven’s Guest, Jallotta and Bushcraft in the field who have all been running well and have won me money recently. I hate to desert a horse in form who I have been following especially the latter who I think has more in the locker and who could improve further over the extra furlong, but taking everything in to consideration I am actually going to side with Donncha here who is in good form himself and who looks to be fairly treated.

Yes he will need to improve as he is up in grade but this come from behind performer is not ground dependant which with the weather as it is at the moment is a bonus and I also think he has been winning his races in a manner that perhaps suggests that he also has more to come. The apprentice on board today has won on him before and considering that his trainer is not a fashionable name like Fahey, Hannon and Johnston who all have runners in the field and whose horses are usually well supported his price (14/1 best price as I write this) suggests that he is bang in there with a chance.

The Sky Bet Dash at York also sees some old friends in the field and one of these Hoof It is the second of the system top rated selections. He is getting on a bit now and hasn’t won in an age but you can’t get away from the fact that he is running off a really attractive mark currently and has blinkers on for the first time today which could sharpen him up. The layers offering 25/1 obviously believe he has little or no chance but I wonder if they may have made a faux pas here?

I am also going to back Charlie Hill’s Tanzeel in the race who I thought ran a cracker after a tardy start on his reappearance behind Bushcraft at Newcastle and will be a strip fitter today. The Hill’s yard has been in the winners recently and I will be disappointed if he doesn’t make a place at least.
A couple of others that I like today are Grand Inquisitor in the 2.40 at Ascot, and a real rag in the shape of Morache Music in the 2.20 at York who I think has been seriously overpriced at 25/1.

Selections
2.20 York Morache Music 25/1 0.5 points each way
2.40 Ascot Grand Inquisitor 1 point win
3.15 Ascot Rene Mathis 20/1 0.5 points each way
3.15 Ascot Donncha 1 point each way
3.30 York Hoof It 25/1 0.5 points each way
3.30 York Tanzeel 1 point each way
