Saturday Preview

A rare day off the racing for me yesterday as I went to see one of the best rock bands ever The Who in Hyde Park London. This is not the first time that I have seen them but again they were totally awesome and blew me away, they certainly know how to entertain and had the audience rocking with a host of their classic tunes, not bad for guys in their seventies I would say!

So after the buzz of yesterday I am back behind my desk analysing the data for today’s cards, and although it is not Royal Ascot there are still some very interesting and competitive races that I like the look of, non-more so than the 3.45 at Newcastle the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate where a field of 20 stayers are due to go to post.

Newcastle is a tough course with a stiff uphill finish so a horse going to win this needs to get every yard of this trip so a horse proven over this kind of distance is a must and one that certainly fits the bill is last year’s winner the Richard Fahey trained Angel Gabrial who looks to hold every chance of repeating last year’s success!

Yes he is up 7lb from last year and has not been in the same kind of form as he was in then but there was a glimmer of a return to form when third at York last time out behind one of today’s rivals Clever Cookie and it could be foolish to dismiss his chances.

Priced at 16/1 he looks to be decent value and I may have a little bit each way on him but I think he may have to play second fiddle to Brian Ellison’s Seamour who looks to be a half decent staying prospect as shown when he had a number these behind him at Haydock last time out over this trip! Yes he is up 8lb for that win and he doesn’t have an ideal draw here and although this is also much tougher he has a willing attitude, is relatively lightly raced and there is a bag of improvement to come from him (I think he will make up in to a group class animal) which hopefully we will see evident here today!
At around 10/1 he is bigger than I was looking for, (my market priced him at 8/1) so he will be carrying the Muskett money.

There are a couple of other races and fancies that I have today including in the 3.10 at Newcastle the again Brian Ellison trained Baraweez who gets a really good rating from me and who I think could go well at a decent price, and in 3.25 at Newmarket where I think Outback Traveller will run in to a place at least.

I have this week been experimenting with the various horse racing software that I have purchased to get a top rated horse (master rating) in each race based upon each software’s different ratings given! Basically there are 5 different software programmes that I currently run and I take the top 3 rated from each of these and award 5 points for top rated, 3 for second and 1 for third, the horse with the highest points tally after all 5 ratings have been calculated is the selection.

There is more testing to come on this but early results do look positive and I will be trialling this again today but I have below listed the top rated horses based upon the above criteria for each of today’s televised races which hopefully will prove successful.

2.00 Newcastle Danzeno
2.15 Newmarket Gospel Choir
2.35 Newcastle Bushcraft
2.50 Newmarket Bournemouth Belle
3.10 Newcastle Barawaaz
3.25 Newmarket Code Red
3.45 Newmarket Angel Gabrial

My selections for today are as follows:

Barawaaz 3.10 Newcastle 1 point each way
Outback Traveller 3.25 Newmarket 1 point each way
Seamour 3.45 Newcastle 1 point each way
Angel Gabrial 3.45 Newcastle 0.5 point each way
