Last weekend the National Hunt season really cranked into gear with Cheltenham’s two-day Showcase Meeting and Old Roan Chase Day at Aintree on Sunday. This week we have Charlie Hall Day at Wetherby, which will hopefully see a clash between Coneygree and Cue Card in the feature race and there is also a very decent Ascot card as that track hosts its first fixture over jumps this season.
Here are few trainer stats to look out for from both meetings starting with Wetherby.
Wetherby – Charlie Hall Meeting
Looking at the stats at the meeting from 2012 to 2016 the top trainer in terms of the number of winners is Paul Nicholls whose record is –
8 winners from 20 runners
Strike Rate 40%
SP Profit +7.51
A/E 1.47
12 placed
Place Strike Rate 60%
and he has had 5 winners more than his nearest rivals.
His runners that finished 1st or 2nd on their last start are really worth noting as his record is
7 winners from 10 runners
Strike Rate 70%
SP Profit +16.01
A/E 2.26 with such runners.
Other trainers whose runners are worth a second look at the Charlie Hall Meeting are:
Harry Fry –
3 winners from 5 runners
Strike Rate 60%
SP Profit +4.25
5 placed
Place Strike Rate 100%
Sandy Thomson –
2 winners from 2 runners
Strike Rate 100%
SP Profit +8.75
Nigel Twiston-Davies –
3 winners from 6 runners
Strike Rate 50%
SP Profit +6.83 (Hurdle races only)
Ascot – October/November Meeting
The figures for this meeting from 2012 to 2016 consist of 35 winners from 385 runners and there are two trainers who stand out.
Two trainers stand out and they have had 34% of the winners at this meeting from just over 10% of the runners. The two trainers are Nicky Henderson & Venetia Williams.
Nicky Henderson –
7 winners from 23 runners
Strike Rate 30%
SP Profit +0.79
A/E 1.23
15 placed
Place Strike Rate 65%
It has paid to look out for his 5-year-olds at the meeting –
5 winners from 7 runners
Strike Rate 71%
SP Profit +4.88
A/E 1.72
6 placed
Place Strike Rate 86%
Venetia Williams –
5 winners from 17 runners
Strike Rate 29%
SP Profit +41.75
A/E 3.38 (profit to BSP +50.42)
7 placed
Place Strike Rate 41%
As a trainer, Venetia Williams clearly aims horses at this meeting and the way to go with her runners looks to be those horses that are racing 90+days since their last start and are racing in class 3 races or better. Those runners have produced the following results–
5 winners from 14 runners
Strike Rate 36%
SP Profit +44.75
A/E 3.94 (profit to BSP +53.42)
7 placed
Place Strike Rate 50%.
It’s a brave punter who ignores any of her runners but she is 0 wins from 3 runners 0 placed in Class 4 races at the meeting.
Hopefully, there will be a few winners among the above. Until next time, be lucky.
