With the last 10 years showing us that the market can get this one wrong, it’s a good strategy to go for horse with odds in the double figures.
Looking at what meets the required trends that gives us Josies Orders and Top Wood.
Delving deeper into the results we see that both David Pipe and Jonjo O’Neill have the better records in this race with several winners and placings between them.
Top Wood comes into this having won the series qualifier at Haydock last month, however he seemed to struggle with the course back in November.
Josies Orders also won a series qualifier for this race, but hasn’t raced at Cheltenham before. Both horses fit the required trends and offer double figure prices. So, for this race, we’ll be betting them both e/w.

hi Michael, I really fancy Grand Vision and Crowning Jewel (who also fits all of your major trends I think,unless mistaken) Have been watching him with interest, this has been the target all year, will relish the ground and end to end gallop – just weather he deals with the occasion and the track. if he does I see him running a big race EW for 5 places, 25/1!
Thanks for the comment Josh. Crowning Jewel does indeed fit all the major trends but Revely has very bad festival stats. That doesn’t mean he can’t come in though, stats are made to be broken and if he does it will be at a very good price 🙂
Yes, Crowning Jewel made it to my short list too. But in the end I’m going for If In Doubt and Broadway Buffalo. Normally this is the kind of race I’d avoid like the plague, but seeing as it’s Cheltenham ….
I would normally avoid a race like this as well Jack. But as you say, seeing as it’s Cheltenham (and I have a separate bankroll for the festival)…

Josies Orders and Top Wood = If you fancy them e/w, then you would probably be better backing them for a place only as what is probably the biggest stat is the fact that :
Just one of the last seventeen winners had won a qualifying race.
Also, None of the last ten winners started with single figure odds ( If In Doubt & Fingal Bay )
