Moore’s to Strike with Vino Griego

A very happy New Year to you and let’s hope 2015 is as good to us as the year just past. A weekend of small fields following the busy Christmas period but I do like Vino Griego in the last at Sandown.

Vino Griego is dropping down the handicap and his current rating of 150 is just 1lb higher than when he last won over course and distance in December 2013. The big question is whether today will be a going day or not? The upcoming spring festivals might be his goal this season off a lower rating but I believe he is worth a chance today with over 30k on offer to the winner.

A couple of things make him attractive from a betting perspective and first and foremost is his price of 18/1! That is way too big especially when you consider how strong a record trainer Gary Moore has at Sandown Park. Jamie Moore takes the ride and knows this horse really well and we can forget his run last time out in the Hennessy Gold Cup where he made a bad mistake over a trip too far.

Vino Griego handles all types of ground and if he can jump fluently today must have a good chance of winning a big pot. There is just the 12 runners and Unioniste looks the main danger.

Selection – 1 Point *EW Vino Griego Sandown 15:35 @ 18/1 Stanjames or 16/1 generally

Best of luck,

Nicky
