July Festival – Day Two Preview

What cracking racing we have on the second day of the Newmarket July meeting with the Quipco Falmouth Stakes heading a tremendous 7 race card.

However the 2 big handicaps the Betfred Mobile at 3.45 and the Silver Bunbury Cup at 4.55 are the races that really interest me along with the intriguing and quality Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at 2.40.

If we start with the latter race where Illuminate and Easton Angel head the market, both ran cracking races at the Royal meeting so the likelihood is that the winner will come from one of these two, however at around 7/4 the pair they are both plenty short enough for me and I am sure there is some value to be had elsewhere. That value comes in the form of Silk Bow whose current price of 100/1 looks a little insulting of her chances and I am therefore going to have a small speculative each way bet on her.

Strictly on Queen Mary form she seems to have little chance of turning the tables on a number of today’s runners who were ahead of her at Ascot but she was bumped 2 furlongs out in that race and was not given a hard time thereafter and I really think that today’s extra furlong will suit.
As I say it is a speculative wager but I think Silk Bow is seriously overpriced and I can’t resist a bit of value even If I am totally wrong!

In the Betfred it is 7/1 the field so this is a wide open affair but looking at my ratings the Mark Johnston trained Mukhmal is a well clear top rated selection which in this kind of competitive race is really unusual.

The Johnston yard is in good form at present and there are excuses for his slightly disappointing run last time out, however previous to this he won convincingly over the trip and in the grade here at Newmarket so there is sound reasoning behind Mukhmal’s rating. Add to this that my market makes him an 8/1 chance but I have just secured 14/1 (thank you very much) all bodes well, let’s hope I am not disappointed and he runs a big run at a decent price!

The Silver Bunbury Cup like the Betfred is oh so competitive and my ratings make this a lot closer. Fiftyshadesofgrey has been in cracking form lately and I have backed him the last twice so it therefore pains me to desert him in his current form, however I am going to have to side with Mr. Win here who is better off at the weights with Fiftyshadesofgrey on their last meeting and is due to go up 2lb in future so is well in here.

Seven furlongs is definitely his trip but I just hope that he is ridden little closer to the pace today so that he can get a run and not get caught in traffic problems and is one of those hard luck stories!
The 8/1 currently available is fair without being generous so an each way investment is advised with a best odds guaranteed bookie as I think he will start a bit bigger than this but at least you have then locked in your investment at the price.

Finally a little mention for Tizlove Regardless in the last who I have heard a couple of well-informed people mention recently as working really nicely at home!
