Leasing Horses… Why You Should Do It!

Before I get into leasing horses, you may remember in my last blog, that I was celebrating an unexpected win for one of our horses in a novice hurdle at Fontwell? Well things went on from strength to strength for that individual, Fr Humphrey! We headed to Kempton in late October for Fr Humphrey’s final race before his lease expired,…

Horse Racing Syndicates (Inside the Rails)

August was a down and up month for BG Horse Racing Syndicates, but every time you get a high from racehorse ownership, it reminds you that all the low points along the way are well worth putting up with! You may recall, from the last article, that we had brought in a lease horse, Fr Humphrey, for the summer. He…

Inside the Rails – Running A Horse Racing Syndicate

In previous blog posts, I have covered most of the areas that form part of racehorse ownership, and you can read these blog posts at https://www.raceadvisor.co.uk/author/phil-boyle-2/ This month I thought I would focus on how all these elements come together. As you will see from my “About the Author” bio, I run BG Horse Racing Syndicates, through which I manage…

    Inside The Rails

How many times do we see stories in the racing press relating to high profile horses missing a big race target due to a minor injury or niggle, and how often do we read about horses that will miss the rest of the season through injury? I am sure you will realise that this happens all the time, and these…

Inside the Rails – A Week In The Life of A Racing Manager

Ever wondered what goes into the preparation for a day at the races? One of the BG Racing horses, The Way You Dance, ran at Goodwood on the 4th May and I thought it might be interesting to outline what takes place in advance of a group of owners enjoying their day at the races! I run BG Racing and…

Inside the Rails – The “Value” of Inside Information

It is often assumed that being an owner means you will immediately have access to profitable information for gambling purposes, but is that really the case? In my regular articles, I have been looking at racehorse ownership to try to provide a peak behind the scenes at what goes into getting the horses that we watch and bet on, ready…

Inside The Rails – Race Planning

In my regular articles, I have been taking a look at racehorse ownership to try to provide a peak behind the scenes at what goes into getting the horses that we watch and bet on, ready to take the chance on the racecourse. In earlier articles, I have looked at purchasing horses, the owner’s day at the races, what different…

Inside The Rails – At the Stables

Last week we looked at the ownership experience at the racecourse, but this is only a small part of the ownership experience.  Even a sprinter will only probably run around 20 races a year and this leaves at least 345 days where owners are not racing with their horse.  There is plenty to experience away from the racecourse however and…

Inside the Rails – At the Stables

If you follow racing at all, you will have probably heard of syndicates and racing clubs and these vehicles allow people to come together to share the costs of ownership.  There may not actually be too much difference between a syndicate and a racing club, but then again one syndicate or racing club can be very different from another, so…

Inside the Rails – An Owner’s Day At The Races

Hi everyone, I hope that last month’s post made you curious enough to want to find out more about the racehorse ownership experience and this week I would like to take you behind the scenes on race day. All owners with runners are allocated a certain number of owner and trainer (O&T) badges by the racecourse which the owner can…

Inside the Rails – An Owner’s Perspective

We’ve all been there, standing around the paddock, making a final check on the horse to be entrusted with our ÂŁ10 bet.  In the Summer you might see Aiden O’Brien with John Magnier and Michael Tabor briefing Ryan Moore or John Gosden with Andrew Lloyd Webber chatting to Frankie Dettori on the lawn in the centre of the paddock.  If…
